Crafting Endings in Short Fiction with Cate Kennedy
Learn how to successfully land your short story
Join one of Australia's most beloved short fiction writers, Cate Kennedy, in this practical writing course on crafting your short story from start to finish.
In fiction, we often talk about the importance of your opening sentence in grabbing the reader's attention. But a story's ending is just as important as its beginning. Your final paragraph, sometimes even your final few words, determines what your reader will take away, how they will feel when they reach that final white space at the end. This course is designed to assist with story structure and developing an ending that will stay with your reader.
You'll learn:
- How to build narrative tension and breathe life into your story
- Common stumbling blocks in short fiction writing and how to avoid them
- How to keep your reader engaged and invested
- How to show not tell through setting, dialogue and action
- How to successfully 'land' your ending
The course is designed to take you 5-6 hours in total, and can be completed in short stages at your convenience. Scroll down to see the full course curriculum and a list of frequently asked questions.
